Volunteer terms

1. The program

Chiang Mai Volunteer Life (run by the team behind Brainstorm Language House) offers a voluntary, unpaid cultural-exchange program in Mae Wang District, Chiang Mai, Thailand. Volunteers help Thai learners practise spoken English, mainly in online conversation sessions, in exchange for free accommodation and meals provided according to the program schedule. There is no program fee.

2. Applications

Submitting an application does not guarantee a place. Applications become active once the email address is verified and are reviewed by our coordinator. If accepted, you must confirm your stay using the link in your acceptance email; unconfirmed places may be offered to other applicants.

3. Your commitment

By joining you agree to keep to the session schedule confirmed by the coordinator (around 4–5 hours a day, 2 days off per week), to be on time for sessions, to tell the coordinator in advance if you are unwell, and to follow the house rules. Minimum stay is 1 week.

4. Accommodation and housekeeping deposit

Accommodation is free. Rooms are allocated by our team based on availability on your arrival date; private rooms cannot be guaranteed. A 200 THB housekeeping deposit is collected on arrival and returned when you leave your room clean and wash the bedding provided. If you prefer not to, the deposit pays our housekeeper to prepare the room for the next volunteer. Full details.

5. Changes, cancellation and early departure

Plans change — please tell us as early as possible if you can no longer come or need to leave early, so we can offer the place to someone else. There is no cancellation charge. The housekeeping deposit is handled as described above whenever your stay ends.

We may end a stay early in cases of serious or repeated breaches of the house rules, the schedule commitment, or behaviour that puts students, volunteers or the community at risk.

6. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for your own travel to and from Mae Wang, travel and health insurance, visa and immigration requirements (see Visa & Legal), personal belongings, and personal expenses.
