Combining remote work with volunteering
Many of our volunteers travel while studying or working remotely, and the program is built to allow it. Your volunteer responsibilities take around 4–5 hours a day for the days you are scheduled, grouped into a teaching period, with 2 days off per week. The rest of the day is yours for client work, study or rest.
Sessions are online and last about 40 minutes each, so they slot between work blocks rather than taking over your day. The coordinator shares your confirmed session times, which depend on student bookings.
The one rule that matters: volunteer responsibilities and scheduled sessions must still be completed. Please only apply if you can commit to the agreed schedule alongside your work.
Work-life balance, countryside style
Work in the morning, walk through rice fields at lunch, join a conversation session in the afternoon, and eat Northern Thai food with volunteers from around the world in the evening.
It is slower than a city co-working space — and that is the appeal.
Location
Quiet countryside, an hour from the city
Mae Wang is a rural district south-west of Chiang Mai city — roughly 40 km, or about an hour by car depending on traffic.
Mae Wang District is rural: rice fields, the Mae Wang river, small temples and villages. Nights are quiet and there is no city traffic noise. Local Thai lifestyle. Living here means shopping at the local market, eating what the season offers, greeting neighbours with a wai, and slowing down. Volunteers who want an authentic Thai village experience — rather than a nomad bubble — tend to be the ones who stay longest.

What we ask of remote workers
- Attend every session on your confirmed schedule, on time, with a working laptop or tablet and headphones
- Tell the coordinator in advance if you are unwell or a work emergency clashes with a session
- Share the workspace considerately — keep calls to a reasonable volume and leave the desk tidy
- Join house life: meals, house rules, and the community you are living in
